This course will introduce you to the concept of information verification in the post-truth era. You will learn how misinformation differs from disinformation and malinformation, and what motivates people to spread the "fake news." Through multiple case studies, you will step into the shoes of journalists, working on verification of the viral content from social media and practice in finding the following:

Who shot the image or the video?

Where and when was it taken?

Is the image or the video authentic or manipulated?

As you progress in the course and master the social media content verification skills, you will be introduced to more complex topics, such as who are trolls and bots; how propaganda uses them, and how journalists can defend themselves from the online attacks.

In short, this course will give you an understanding of the tools and importance of verifying the information, but also emphasize that there are no easy answers to verification and the process involves critical thinking of a professional journalist all along.
